Announcement for St. Mary's 175th Anniversary
As I've shared on a few occasions, we will be celebrating our 175th Anniversary as a parish on December 8, 2020! A 175th Anniversary Steering Committee has been working diligently in planning various ways that we can commemorate, celebrate, and thank God for this historical milestone.
Steering Committee Members: (Back L to R) Brian Regan, Pat Kimker, Chris Kimker,
(Front L to R) Provy Rivera,
Teresa Hernandez, Maureen Cordero, Father Derek Anderson
One of the first things the committee did was to design a unique logo for the 175th Anniversary (picture below). The logo will be used for various commemorative items throughout 2020.
As you can see from the image, the graphic designer was able to capture the historical/architectural aspects of St. Mary’s church. The tag line
"Be Disciples - Make Disciples"
expresses our identity and mission; as disciples we follow and grow closer to Jesus in our daily lives and actively draw and invite others onto that same path of discipleship. If you look closely you will also see that the colored "175" within the logo contains the beautiful stained glass window of the Blessed Mother from the right transept of the church.
Speaking of stained glass, the first commemorative item the steering committee created is a small replica of the window of Our Blessed Mother. These small replicas can be used as Christmas tree ornaments or as sun catchers for home windows. They are now available for purchase in glass and acrylic after each weekend Mass - just in time for Christmas!
The committee is also in the process of putting together detailed plans for various events to occur throughout 2020. The year will culminate with a special celebratory week leading up to the 175th Anniversary on December 8, 2020.
I am happy to announce that one of the events planned for 2020 is a Marian Pilgrimage to Portugal, Spain, and France from July 27 - August 6. This will be an amazing opportunity to experience Europe’s most treasured Catholic shrines where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared. I look forward to leading this pilgrimage with as many of you as possible! Stay tuned for more details in the weeks ahead.
As we move through 2020, please show your support to the steering committee and the activities they have planned. May all our preparations help us to celebrate and thank God for the 175 years He has given to us as a parish family!
God bless you,
Fr. Derek Anderson, SOLT
